Dr. Carla Mebane

Dr. Mebane joined the Board of Directors in January 2013. Dr. Mebane is the Dual Credit Director of High School Partnerships at University of Missouri Kansas City. Dr. Mebane received her Ed.D. in Leadership and Policy Analysis from University of Missouri-Columbia, a M.A. Ed. in school Leadership from Baker University, a M.S. Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction from Lesley University and a B.S. Ed. in Elementary Education from William Jewell College. Dr. Mebane has over 20+ years of educational experience.

Leon Dixon

Leon Dixon — Founder, Chairman Emeritus, Advanced Math Instructor

Member of the Kansas City Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and National Black United Front. Mr. Dixon is retired from Allied Signal Corporation (formally Bendix and now Honeywell) where he was a mathematician and computational scientist for 32 years. He is currently a member of the Library Board of Trustees and author of the book Future In Our Hands" a discourse on the W.E.B. DuBois Learning Center. Mr. Dixon holds a BA and MA in Mathematics from Texas Southern University in Houston Texas.

Phil Vann

Phil Vann — Treasurer

Phillip Vann, Sr. has over 25 years as a information technology professional in both technical and management positions. He has been a volunteer of the W.E.B DuBois Learning Center for 14 years with the last 6 years as a board member and treasurer. Mr. Vann is a co-founder the Black Family Technology Awareness Association and recipient of the 2011 Alumni Group's Service Leadership Award for the promotion of STEM to minority students.

Terri Barnes

Terri Barnes — Interim Executive Director & Administrative Team

Terri has more than 25+ years of management experience in financial services industry. Very interested in the nonprofit management sector, she has taken many hours of nonprofit professional courses and has a Fund Raising Certificate from UMKC. Mrs. Barnes is the co­founder of Trace's Place — A Community Resource for Girls and Young Women. She has a BA degree in Business Management from Park University and holds 6, 63, 26 FINRA securities licenses.

Tim Jones

Tim Jones — Board President

Mr. Jones joined the Board of Directors in January 2013. Tim has spent 30+ years in the corporate and public sector providing Supply Chain program and project management direction and support. He has a special interest in supporting the success of nonprofit organizations and currently serves as Board President for two different entities. Tim holds an MBA in Procurement and Acquisition Management from Webster University, a BSBA in Accounting from University of Central Missouri and is certified in Project Management, Housing Development Finance and Public Housing Management.

Vern Glover

Vern Glover — Vice Chairman, Math Instructor

Mr. Glover is a charter member of the W.E.B. DuBois Learning Center and has more than 20 years of experience as an Information Technology executive. Mr. Glover retired from the USDA and held several executive level positions during this tenure including Director of Technology, Director of Information Systems and Deputy Chief Information Officer. Mr. Glover has a Bachelors of Science degree, majoring in Mathematics and a minor in physics from the University of Pine Bluff, in Arkansas.
