Dr. Deana Ervin is a Nonprofit Executive with expertise in Education and Youth Leadership Development. She has served Kansas City youth and families over the past 20 years as a HUD Community Builder and former CEO of the Children’s Defense Fund KC Freedom Schools Initiative, annually serving 2,000 youth and 300 staff. She is also a founding team member of the $70 million Kauffman Scholars Program which currently provides full-ride college scholarships for more than 2,000 area teens. To continue this work, she founded Black & College Bound, a college and career readiness organization coaching urban students for college success, from preschool through PhDs.
Dr. Ervin is a Prairie View A&M University alum who also holds an MBA and MPA in Administration; and an Interdisciplinary PhD in Urban Educational Leadership and Public Administration. She is the recipient of numerous awards including the “Time Well Spent” for her service and leadership to our community. When not working, this busy wife and mother of three enjoys book clubs, and volunteering with youth organizations, Delta Sigma Theta and the Urban League.
