About the W.E.B. DuBois Learning Center
At the W.E.B. DuBois Learning Center, we believe every child deserves a quality education, regardless of background or resources. For years, we have supported underserved communities by providing accessible education and cutting-edge technology. Our programs empower students with the latest STEM technologies, helping them stay competitive in an evolving world.
We offer free tutorial services in Reading and STEM subjects and have positively impacted thousands of youth. Our inclusive services are rooted in equity and enhanced by technology, bridging the education gap for both children and adults.

Applications for the school year open in August. Enrollment runs from August through May. Stay tuned for more details as the year progresses.
Our History
Our Center was founded in 1973 by community leaders William Grace and Leon Dixon, who united their passions for education and volunteerism to give back to their community. William, a dedicated teacher in the Kansas City Missouri School District, developed innovative reading methods to engage his students, leading to the creation of the W.E.B. DuBois Reading Program. Meanwhile, Leon, pursuing his master's degree in mathematics, recognized a need for math tutoring in his community and proposed a community math program to the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Their shared vision and commitment laid the foundation for what would become the W.E.B. DuBois Learning Center.
Since then, the W.E.B. DuBois Learning Center has expanded to include instruction in core subjects such as science, technology, engineering, math, and reading. Over the past 50 years, we've introduced various programs, including college coaching. Currently, one of our key programs is KUAW Radio, which operates out of the Learning Center. We are proud to have served our community since 1973, and we look forward to continuing to support and inspire our students for many years to come.
As we explore and provide new learning opportunities to equip students and adults for 21st-century challenges, the Learning Center offers us stability and a home base where we can build a lasting legacy for our children and community – The Future in Our Hands.
